I have been a Kate Spade fan for a long, long time. I love her classy, fun style, and she manages to bring together really vibrant colors without seeming an ounce too juvenile. This goes for her accessories, sunglasses, shoes, and definitely her handbags. I think my first designer purse was by Kate Spade, a small baby blue purse purchased at a Kate Spade store in Dallas, and I have bought three since: a deep purple clutch from Nordstrom Rack, a black nylon logo hobo, and a large kelly green tote, both from the outlet store in Woodbury Commons. What do you think of this bag? I need something fun but also roomy for the summer. This won't be any old purse I fling around, I'll save it for meeting up with friends at the park or at the museum. You know, since I'm soooo cultured. But yeah, I don't want to wear out my go-to bag, a Marc by Marc Jacobs that I absolutely adore, and need a fitting alternative. Like I said, I love the many colors of Kate Spade. This Sunflower one might be a little over the top, no? It's available at Nordstrom for $395. The blue, er, Fez, color is available on ebay for about $270. And I have to mention: on the Kate Spade site, the off white color is listed as "clotted cream". Gross! On Nordstrom's site there is a darker color, more appropriately called "coffee cream". So clotted cream doesn't seem to be a mistake. I mean really....we couldn't think of a less cringe-worthy name for a color? They should work on that. So...take it or leave it? And which one?

You know I love your take it or leave its.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, while I am normally against white because of the way it shows dirt, I feel like with a purse it might be essential to get a neutral color like that so you don't have to worry about color coordinating. Or is that something that does not apply to purses? The yellow and blue are fun colors but I could picture that becoming an issue if you were wearing, say, a different shade of blue or yellow. And if you are going to spend that much money on something, you want it to be versatile. In short, go with the white, and just be extra careful with it so it doesn't get dirty!
i would take the off-white..err..clotted cream color over anything too bold. like ginger said, esp. in that price range, you want to get as much wear out of it as possible. if it's leather it should be fairly easy to keep clean.
ReplyDeleteI am not a designer bag person because I switch them up and get bored easy - so I opt for cheaper ones. I agree with the spend that much money get a color that you will love forever. I think you should go to Chinatown (by the Manhattan Bridge) and follow one of the ladies to their secret lairs full of top-notch knock offs and buy the yellow or blue one for $40. Usually those secret places charge $60-80 but its a recession and all....
ReplyDeletei have a yellow purse and i LOVE it. i think it goes with almost everything, and i wear it almost every time i go out. i got it from Marshall's for like 40 bucks. Kate Spade is really cute- but you can find an equally nice purse in the same colors for a bit more affordable... but if you go Kate Spade, I think you should really go for a bright color, since that is what she's known for. The blue color is nice, too. Take it, any of it!
ReplyDeleteGo for the yellow!
ReplyDeleteSee the post on May 12th. I recently remembered another Kate Spade purse I own and when also considering the wallets and small accessories I have, I've decided to pass.
